Emerald Airport will meet aircraft loading requirements and safety compliance through an upgrade that will resurface and strengthen the runway, taxiway and apron bays.
These works will extend the serviceable life of the runway, which is showing signs of ageing and pavement weakness.
It is the only public-use airport in the region and is vital for economic sustainability, logistics, business, the resource sector, tourism and trade. The airport also hosts emergency evacuation flights by the Royal Flying Doctor Service and provides the community with access to essential medical facilities.
