Runway and Ancillary Lighting Replacement – Charters Towers Airport
- Council: Charters Towers Regional Council
- Fund: Royalties for Resource Producing Communities Fund
- Category: Road and Transport Infrastructure
- Round: 2
New runway lighting will ensure that Charters Towers airport remains operational 24 hours a day, supporting outlying cattle stations, the Royal Flying Doctor Service, defence, emergency re-supply and children going to boarding school.
The project will replace the above ground lighting system for the airport's sealed runway to provide new runway lighting, taxiway lighting, the illuminated wind direction indicator, and apron floodlighting.
The existing runway lighting system is the original system installed following post-war operations and has reached the end of its useful life with a potential risk of failure.
