- Council: Charters Towers Regional Council
- Fund: Royalties for Resource Producing Communities Fund
- Category: Flood Mitigation Infrastructure
- Round: 2
Charters Towers will see a reduction in flooding along Mosman Creek and its major tributary with the construction of two new flood retention basins.
This will reduce the rate of flow by up to 70% in one-in-10-year flood events and reduce the impacts of flooding on 20 private residences on King, Stubley and Jane Streets, businesses on Boundary Street, and council infrastructure.
The project is expected to reduce pressure on the sewer main and sewage treatment plant, and potential for contamination of Mosman Creek during severe rain events. It will also reduce the disruption and costs of flood response and recovery to council and the community.
