Mackay Isaac Whitsunday banner

The Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region is one of the most naturally beautiful and resource-rich locations in Australia. Here you’ll find the magnificence of the Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Islands. The region is also home to the Bowen and Galilee basins, the largest coal mining deposits in Australia. In fact, it’s the principal services support centre for the mining and resources sector in Central Queensland, providing specialist industrial, transport and supply chain services.

The major sectors of the Mackay Isaac Whitsunday region are agriculture, tourism, horticulture, aquaculture, mining, manufacturing and construction.

Local business services and support

We’re committed to helping local businesses find project opportunities. Strengthening Mackay Isaac Whitsunday is a targeted suite of activities that help local businesses compete for work. This is done by improving their tendering and supply chain capabilities.

Activities in the region include workshops and mentoring services. Industry briefings support businesses at all stages of project supply chains, including sub-contracting and supplier arrangements.

We’re committed to providing local businesses with full, fair and reasonable opportunities to participate in government and non-government projects across Queensland.

These activities are part of how we’re delivering on the Queensland Government's vision to strengthen the economy, create jobs and grow the region.

Major project supply chain activities

We’re focussed on supply chain activities for major regional projects.

Clarke Creek Wind Farm

The Clark Creek Wind Farm Project will be located in Clarke Creek, about 150 km north-west of Rockhampton and 150 km south of Mackay in Central Queensland. The wind farm is a $1 billion investment that will involve the construction of up to 195 wind turbines and associated ancillary infrastructure. The life of the wind farm is 25 years. It’s estimated that 350 jobs will be created during the construction period and up to 25 full-time jobs will be required when operational.

Lacour Energy has partnered with Goldwind Australia Pty Ltd (Goldwind) to deliver the Clarke Creek Integrated Wind, Solar and battery power station project. Goldwind will supply the wind turbines to the project and manage construction works. The project is in the final phases of feasibility. Construction is planned to start in 2019 and be completed by early to mid-2021.

We’re working with Lacour and Goldwind to facilitate local industry participation in the project through the Clarke Creek Local Business Participation Program. The program will be implemented in a three-stage process via the Industry Capability Network (ICN) and industry briefing sessions. Businesses can register interest in supply opportunities through the ICN Gateway.
